Cylinder Exchange

The commercial Cylinder Exchange Program provides on-site cylinder storage for your forklift fleet. Cylinder cages can be configured to store the right amount of propane for your operations in one convenient location giving you the flexibility to exchange empty cylinders with full cylinders on your schedule. Cylinder cages typically hold between 6 and 12 propane cylinders. Fresh and fully fueled cylinders will be delivered to your business on a schedule that fits your needs and operations. Shawley’s will inspect and perform all needed maintenance on Exchange Cylinders before you take delivery. On-site Cylinder Exchange provides business owners with the flexibility and dependability they deserve and peace of mind knowing they can continue operating at maximum capacity without fear of running out of fuel.

With on-site refueling, Shawley’s will refill your empty forklift cylinders at your business on a schedule and cycle that best serves you. With this service, one of Shawley’s trained delivery operators will individually fill, inspect, and safety check each forklift cylinder you provide. On-site refueling eliminates the need to have a cylinder exchange cage or bulk storage vessel on your property.

Regardless of your project or needs, Shawley’s has the experience and skills necessary to achieve your goals.

Tank/Cylinder Repair and Recertification

Propane tanks and cylinders, much like the vehicles you drive, must be periodically inspected for proper operation and condition to ensure customer safety. Cylinders must be recertified 12 years after their date of manufacture (manufacture dates are usually stamped into the collar of the cylinder). For example, a 20lbs propane grill cylinder manufactured in February of 2000 must be recertified by February 2012. Propane marketers and retailers are obligated by law to refuse refilling any “out of date” cylinders. They must be recertified. After the initial 12th year recertification, cylinders must be recertified every 5 years. This process is simple and fast, usually only taking a few minutes for one of our trained personnel to ensure your tank is safe and ready for operation.

Periodic maintenance of propane cylinders and storage tanks act as a preventative safety measure while also extending the useable life of your equipment. Damaged collars, valves, gauges, or foot rings can create hazardous conditions that need to be addressed immediately. Well maintained tanks can last business owners up to 50 years or more, but maintenance is critical in detecting and fixing any issues that may develop over time.
Shawley’s is well versed in propane storage tank installation, maintenance, and repair. Over our 50+ years of business we have serviced thousands of propane tanks across the entire spectrum of locations, configurations, environments, and sizes. From residential 20lbs grill tanks to 30,000+ gallon industrial bulk storage tanks, we have seen and done it all. In fact, our experience is so great that we are called upon by local and state governmental agencies for propane related emergencies. No matter your problem, from sticking gauges to leaking valves, we are ready and willing to offer you a solution.

Shawley’s will work with you from the start to create a Cylinder Exchange Program that delivers the greatest value to you and your customers. Each exchange cylinder is reconditioned, recertified, inspected, and safety checked before being delivered to your exchange cage.
We will work with you every step of the way. Shawley’s offers each Cylinder Exchange Program member with the highest levels of support possible. Cylinder Refilling Stations

Businesses who have a high volume of propane sales through traditional Cylinder Exchange Programs or who are strategically positioned to benefit from higher amounts of foot traffic and demand have started installing on-site propane refilling pumper stations. Shawley’s has worked with a great number of clients from campgrounds to general stores to install on-site pumpers. This service allows customers the ability to refill their own tanks without having to constantly exchange them each time they are empty.
With an on-site pumper, you can directly refill your customer’s propane cylinders. Like with our Cylinder Exchange Program, Shawley’s will work with you every step of the way to design, build, and install the propane pumper that is right for your business. We will provide marketing, training, and safety support to your entire staff. Some clients have coupled on-site refilling stations with our Cylinder Exchange Program to offer their customers the option to purchase new or reconditioned tanks, exchange their current tanks, or refill their own purchased tank.

Weed & Insect Control

Weeds are not only an eyesore but can cause serious issues in both conventional and organic crop production. Traditionally, homeowners have relied on expensive and toxic chemicals to treat their gardens, sidewalks, patios, and driveways. These traditional methods not only increase the amount of pollutants and toxins in the air which are harmful not only to weeds but also humans as well but continued use over time allows the plants/weeds to develop natural immunities and resistances to these products. Propane weed burners rapidly heat the cells of weeds and plants, causing them to rupture thus killing the growth almost immediately. Because propane is non-toxic, propane weed burners do not contaminate the soil, ground water, or other nearby plants or flowers.
Propane powered mosquito and insect eliminators are able to protect up to an acre of land. These eliminators use a remarkably effective design by turning propane into carbondioxide, heat, and moisture which are the three main attractants for mosquitoes and insects.
